WHAT’S SO IMPORTANT ABOUT CHOLESTEROL?

Cholesterol is an insoluble fat (lipid) that is primarily formed in the liver. It serves many vital functions in the body. It is an essential component of cell membranes throughout the body, providing stability and allowing substances to be transported into the cells. It is a necessary constituent in the membranes (coverings) in the central nervous system. It is important in the formation of the bile acids which participate in the absorption of fat in the intestine. Cholesterol is also necessary for the adrenal glands to make steroids and sex hormones. In order for cholesterol to be transported in the blood plasma, it must combine with proteins. Thus, when cholesterol is measured in the blood, it is detected as a lipoprotein (a fat-protein-complex).

The Road to Revival

In these times of economic challenges we need a lift in our spirits to help us focus on our faith. There are too many reports of things that are wrong in our world and scarce newsworthy stories of the good things that are right. The church task is to report the good news that our Lord Jesus can help us overcome the challenges of life and brings us through the changes that we go through.

Rightly Dividing the Word of God

“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (II Tim. 2:15, NKJV)

These words of counsel to Timothy from his mentor Paul serve us well today, and as an introduction to a series of articles for this year. In these we will address some passages from the King James Version that need updating to rightly interpret them in their context.
